SINGLE VISION
Single vision lenses are used to correct for simple refractive disorders such as myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, and some muscle disorders. Single vision lenses provide clear vision for the above disorders and they correct for one focal point.

MULTIFOCAL
Multifocal lenses provide correction for more than one focal point of vision. Specific multifocal lens styles are described below. Multifocals include bifocal, trifocal and progressive lenses.

BIFOCAL
Bifocal lenses are a lined segment lens for clear vision at two prescribed distances, including reading up close and clear vision in the distance. The upper portion of the lens is for seeing in the distance and the bottom segment is to see at a reading distance. The segment for reading is available in four basic shapes.

TRIFOCAL
Trifocal lenses are a lined segment lens for clear vision at three prescribed distances, including reading up close, clear vision in the distance and at intermediate distances (such as arms length or computer screen). Trifocals are available in a limited variety of material options, segment sizes and shapes. The intermediate segment, or the middle segment of the lens, is for arms length or computer distance. The power of this portion of the lens is one half the near point power. There are two basic segment styles for trifocal lenses shown below.

A flat top or D-seg, is shaped just like a bifocal D-seg except it has an extra line. This gives the top of the lens for distance, the first segment of the trifocal for intermediate distance, and bottom segment for near tasks.

Progressive Addition Lenses or PAL lenses
Progressive lenses are multifocal lenses that do not have a visible line. Progressive lenses provide a smooth transition of prescription power change by adjusting your position of gaze through the lens. This smooth transition eliminates the jump at the lines between vision zones of other multifocal styles. Progressive lenses provide the most natural vision correction for multifocal prescription wearers. The latest designs are so advanced that it has nearly eliminated the need for most bifocal and trifocal lenses. In addition, progressive lenses are available in a variety of lens styles and material options.
